Ban on license testing hurts region’s young drivers

Nationals Member for Ovens Valley Tim McCurdy has called on the Victorian Government to lift the restrictions on driving tests being conducted during COVID-19.

Mr McCurdy says that the region’s young people waiting to sit their driver license test have copped the brunt.

License testing was suspended in March - with news today that it will resume but no information has been revealed about how the backlog of cancelled tests will be dealt with.

“Labor is sitting on its hands regarding the resumption of driver license testing and it’s the region’s young people waiting to sit their diver license test who are bearing the brunt,”.

“I have been contacted by the families of young tradies and farmers who need to sit their driver’s license test in order to be able to get to work and do their job and this situation is really unfair on them".

“Daniel Andrews once again fails to understand the issues that those outside of the city’s tram tracks face as local young people really need to sit their test, including those who require a manual driver’s license.”

"The Andrews Labor Government was unable to say when VicRoads would resume license testing".

“In the Ovens Valley getting your Ps is really not a choice, it’s a necessity,” .

“Public transport is not an option as it is in Melbourne.

“This is yet another example of Daniel Andrews only considering how coronavirus impacts people in Melbourne, not regional Victoria.

“This situation is impacting on our young people’s opportunities, futures and outcomes and it must be addressed.”
