A meteor has struck the Earth's atmosphere!

Astrophysicist and Cosmologist, Dr Brad Tucker at the ANU in Canberra told Ace Radio that the meteor entered over the NSW Central Coast and made its way over Sydney before exploding on the NSW-Victorian border last night.

Some people even reported they heard the explosions at the border, but Dr Tucker says this was quite a small meteor and there is next to no damage, just a spectacular light display for locals.

The bright fireball has left what is called "space rocks" scattered around both the states.

North East residents should look out for them in their backyard or paddock.
