The multi million dollar upgrade of Tooma Road in the Upper Murray, is completed.
It involved widening and stabilizing a 3.7 kilometre section, and installing new guide posts and signage, to ensure the road meets Ausroads safety standards.
The project cost just over $4 million, and was partly funded by the NSW and Federal Governments, as well as the Snowy Valleys Council which managed the construction work.
Work is getting underway to demolish the old Biggara Bridge across the Murray River, 20 k’s south of Towong.
The timber and steel bridge was built in 1951 to replace the suspension bridge that was washed away in 1946.
The bridge was in poor condition, and in 2011 a temporary replacement bridge was built – this will become the permanent bridge.
Demolition work will be carried out between 7am and 6pm on weekdays, and motorists should follow traffic control directions and signs.
