The North East and Border region will face high temperatures for 3 days in a row of over 40 degrees.

High temperatures are worsening fears of bushfire conditions for the remainder of summer, according to the Border Mail, whilst greeting annual Christmas holiday tourists.

The coolest places are the Alpine Resorts where temperatures are forecast for the mid-20s. The extreme heatwave conditions follow the pre-Christmas heavy rainfall where totals ranged from 180mm near Everton and 40mm at Corowa.

Emergency Management Victoria Hume regional controller Stephen Grant said that the recent rainfall would quickly evaporate and "we're still concerned about fire".
