Stay Safe Online Week
This week is Stay Smart Online Week, and Border & North East residents are urged to have cyber security top of mind.
So far this year, there have been more than 50,000 online scams reported across Australia, at a total cost of almost $37 million. The annual cost to the economy is put at $1 billion.
The figures come as a new Cyber First Aid Kit is launched to help users identify security issues by answering a simple set of questions.
Assistant Minister for Cyber Security, Dan Tehan, says we can all take steps to protect ourselves online.
"Local residents can go to staysmartonline.gov.au or Facebook.com/staysmartonline to find out more information about Stay Smart Online Week and take action if there are areas that can be improved in how you are behaving online."
