“A lot of businesses are doing it tough and pubs and clubs are no different,” Mr Phan said. “They are the heart-beat of our company and our industry and we thought, what can we do for them? Right now, what they need is cash to stay afloat and pay their bills.
“What we’re offering is for punters in the Albury Wodonga region to buy a pint of Carlton Draught today, at $10 and that money will go direct to the pub so they can pay those bills.
“When life returns to normal and the doors are re-opened, we want you to go in and enjoy that pint and Carlton & United Breweries will shout you a second one for free, so two for the price of one.”
Patrons can make their purchase via a dedicated website and specifically choose ‘their local’. Although the campaign has just been launched, several local pubs and clubs have registered.
“We’ve already had great support in Albury with venues like the Commercial Club, the Albury Club, the SS&A Club and the Albion and in Wodonga there’s the Blazing Stump Hotel, Birallee Tavern and Edwards Tavern,” Mr Pahn said.
“If your favourite local is not on there, get them to jump on the website and sign up, then go on there, buy your pint and get it matched two for one when the doors re-open.”
It’s hoped this campaign will resonate with beer lovers across the country.
“The pubs are often a place in the community where everyone comes together for a counter meal or just to catch, a real part of our Australian culture,” Mr Pahn said. “If you can, fork out a little money today and you’ll be rewarded in the future and you’ll be helping your local community as well.”
