A new flight route between Albury and Brisbane will be going ahead in winter.

Qantas has confirmed they will be running regular services between the two cities in time for the ski season.

Albury City Mayor Kevin Mack has welcomed the announcement, particularly for tourist operators who missed out on the season last year.

“We’re very excited to be welcoming this new service from Qantas at a time when our tourism businesses are recovering from the effects of COVID-19," he says.

"Having this new direct link into the important Queensland market will put smiles on lots of faces."

He said it will not only be good for the Queensland snow bunnies, but will be great for north east and border residents who want to plan a warmer winter holiday.

“It will be fantastic to see the new routes well patronised as we continually work to expand and improve the air links between Albury and the world."

Three flights a week will be scheduled, running from the 1st of July to the 26th of September. This will provide more than 5,700 seats throughout the season.

Qantas will also start direct flights from Albury to Melbourne at the end of the month, and there is speculation that an Albury to Adelaide flight could be on the cards.
